Tainted Garden
Published in Digital by Ballantine ()
Author: Jeff Stanley
Average review score:

Tainted Garden
Top-notch New Pulp SF, jam-packed with horror-movie special effects but with the underpinning of a strongly built world.

The sentence-level writing is lush, dramatic, and highly detailed, and character reactions appear in technicolor. The speculative element here is largely biological, and it's an interesting one. Thematically, the book asks what's human, and though that's a well-worn SF theme, it's expressed here in a fresh and thoroughly enjoyable way.

This is a first published novel. Hopefully, it marks the beginning of a stellar career. I hope that readers won't be put off by the digital format. Please take it from me, a Luddite, that the MS Reader works well and is easy to read from. And if this novel gets the response it deserves, we'll be seeing Stanley's work in print soon.

The Tao at Work: On Leading and Following
Published in Paperback by Jossey-Bass (15 March, 2001)
Author: Stanley M. Herman
Average review score:

A profound guide to total leadership in all aspects of life
Intrigued by the title, I picked up this book and could not put it down until I finish reading the last sentence. This book provides the most valuable philosophical advice you will ever receive about the balance between the assertive energy and the passive energy that rule all aspects of our life. Since we spend most of our wake-up hours at work, the principles outlined in the book become exceptionally beneficial to anyone who is seeking for "spirituality" and "balance" at work. Learn and Apply, (yes Apply), those principles and you will notice the improvement of the quality of your life. The improvement will not be first in the sense of how much more money you will earn, rather how much happier and how much more capable you are becoming. When you reach that point, before you know, you are on the track for significant career advancement and higher earning power. When you bring this newly developed total self-leadership to your life outside of work, you will notice that no matter how many activities you engage yourself in, you will always have the peace, the center and the wisdom with you. This book should be made a required reading for all companies, from top executives to the very junior staff. It can also be a great gift to someone you really love and care about his/her own personal fulfillment.

These Were the Romans
Published in Hardcover by Hyperion Books (December, 1989)
Authors: Stanley Thornes and Graham Tingay
Average review score:

Gotta love this
The Romans how can you not love them! This book gives you the reason why. It covers all aspects of the Roman livelihood, their homes, jobs, lands and customs. I think it is one of the better general informative books about the Romans out there, and would give a real good education for the general reader. For the skilled professional or student of the classics, this book will help touch up what you don't know and secure what you do. It is worth the read, and you will be able to tell why it is a standard classic used to teach in so many universities.

Though he slay me : a story of courage shining through heartaches such as few of us have experienced
Published in Unknown Binding by Review and Herald Pub. Association ()
Author: Miriam Wood
Average review score:

Though He Slay Me
I have this book now for nearly 20 years. I have to get new copies because it is continuously being borrowed from my library. This book is a story of a couple in Christian ministry who suffer at the hands of their "Christian" but unsaved members and church leaders. But the faith and courage is so encouraging it is a book that I would recommend to present day Pastor's wives, especially from the more established and traditional church organizations. God's grace is sufficient.

To Fool a Glass Eye: Camouflage Versus Photoreconnaissance in World War II
Published in Hardcover by Smithsonian Institution Press (September, 1998)
Author: Roy M., II Stanley
Average review score:

Best Book on Subject Available
In World War Two, camouflage became an extremely important part of the military tool kit. This book is a first-class foray into the subject with numerous photographs to illustrate the authors points. Separate chapters on aircraft, field facilities, warships, etc. cover the range of applications. Compared to the simple treatments that are available elsewhere (in this price range), this book is by far the best. Again, great photographic examples.

Tort Law for Legal Assistants
Published in Hardcover by West Wadsworth (January, 1992)
Authors: Linda L. Edwards and J. Stanley Edwards
Average review score:

Tort Law for Legal Assistants
Tort Law for Legal Assistants is a must for any civil litigation paralegal. I selected it based upon its table of contents, and it delivers. It is a clear, concise overview of tort law that provides reasoning, theories, relationships, elements, effects, limitations, applications, and much more. I wish I had known about this book during my paralegal training classes. At least I have it now as a review tool and reference guide for assignments as a paralegal.
